How to Reset Your Tire Pressure Light

Sometimes, your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light can flash even after you’ve had your Cadillac vehicle serviced. If you notice that your TPMS light is on as you drive around Cape Coral, then you might just have to reset the light. Learn how to reset your tire pressure light easily with the service center at Val Ward Cadillac!

4 Ways to Reset Your Tire Pressure Light

If your TPMS light is on after you’ve filled up your tires with air or had them serviced, then the light probably just needs to be reset. Luckily, the process is easy and can be done from your own garage.

Here’s how to reset your tire pressure light in four different ways:

Method 1:

1. Check your tires to see that they do in fact have the right amount of air pressure

2. Once you’ve confirmed that your tires have the right amount of air in them and that the light just needs to be reset, drive around Bonita Springs at about 50 mph for about 10 minutes. This can allow the sensor to reset the next time you drive your car.

Method 2:

1. If you still see a flashing tire pressure light, then turn your car off with the key in the “On” position. Be sure not to actually start the car.

Hold down the TPMS button until you see the light blink three times.

3. After you see the light blink three times, release the button.

4. Start your car, and wait 20 minutes to let the sensor refresh.

Method 3:

1. If your tire sensor light is still flashing, inflate your tires to 3 PSI over the recommended amount.

2. After you’ve inflated your tires 3 PSI over the recommended amount, deflate them completely.

3. You’ll want to be sure you do this with the spare tire as well since it could too have a sensor

4. After you’ve deflated all of your tires, go back and inflate them until they have the right amount of air in them.

Method 4:

1. Turn off your car, locate your battery, and disconnect the positive cable using a wrench

2. Turn your car back on, and honk your horn for about three seconds. This should get rid of any power that might be left in your car.

3. After you’ve done that, reconnect the positive battery cable.

Hands on Cadillac steering wheel,

Why Am I Seeing a Flashing Tire Pressure Light?

Your TPMS feature uses sensors to monitor the air pressure in your tires. That way, it can indicate whether your tires have too much or too little air pressure in them. You’ll see a flashing tire pressure light come on when your tires need air in them, but a flashing light can also be a sign that the battery of the TPMS needs to be replaced.
