How Can I Prepare for a Lease Return?

If you’re planning on returning your GM vehicle, you’ll want to start making preparations a few months prior to the end of your lease term to help lower the risk that you’ll be charged any fees. Let’s take a look:

• Make sure to clean your vehicle out and take it to the car wash to clean the exterior.
• Inspect it for damage. Damage can put you at risk for incurring fees for “excessive wear.” If it’s possible to cost-effectively fix small issues prior to returning your lease, do so to be on the safe side.
• That said, certain types of small damage may not incur fees. Check the fine print on your original lease agreement to get an idea of what smaller issues should and shouldn’t cause alarm.
• Make sure to gather and return any additional equipment that came with the vehicle at the beginning of the lease, including any cargo netting, compartmental accessories, etc.
• Also, check your odometer and compare it to any mileage limits listed in your lease agreement. If you are over mileage, you’ll have to pay a fee.
• Finally, once you’re prepared your lease vehicle for return, contact us 3 months in advance of the expiration date on your lease agreement to initiate the return process.
