Can You Put Premium Gas in Any Car?

When you’re refilling your gas tank in Cape Coral, you might consider stepping up to premium gas. But is it worth the extra expense? Can you put premium gas in any car? The quick and easy answer is yes, you can put premium gas in any car, but when you know what different octane levels mean, you probably won’t want to. Find out why you can put premium gas in any car, and what type of gas your car takes with the service team at Val Ward Cadillac.

What are Octane Levels?

No doubt Naples drivers have noticed that there are usually three different types of gasoline when they’re fueling up, and they’re differentiated by the numbers 87, 89, and 91. These numbers relate to the gasoline’s octane level and indicate how much the fuel can be compressed before it ignites, creating the combustion that powers the car. Gasoline with an 87-octane rating is fine for standard engines. Premium gasoline has an octane rating of 91, and it’ll work in a standard engine. It’s an unnecessary expense, though, since premium gasoline doesn’t improve how a standard engine runs.

Cadillac drivers in Bonita Springs should opt for premium gasoline with an octane rating of 91 or more. That’s because premium gas is designed for high-performance engines like you find in most new Cadillac vehicles. Performance engines are standard in many Cadillacs. When an engine contains words like turbocharged or supercharged, it means that it’s a performance engine that can be damaged if it doesn’t get that higher combustion rate premium gasoline provides.

What Kind of Gas Does My Car Take?

If you’re unsure what type of gas your car takes, check your owner’s manual or contact Val Ward Cadillac. We can help you figure out what’s best for your car. Most standard cars are fine with 87-octane regular gasoline, but if you’re unsure if your vehicle has a high-performance engine, you’ll definitely want to double-check and make the correct gasoline choice. It bears repeating that choosing premium gasoline when your car doesn’t need it is literally burning money. It’s not necessary.
